What Should the System Be Doing vs. What Is the System Doing? - Herein lies the answer to how to fix the fault.
This is the point where either you, the Operator or a colleague understands exactly how the machine should be performing.
A simple mathematical formula:
(The Expected Operation) - (The Way It Is Operating In Front of You) = The Problem
Going back to the Hooper on Machine Repair Example I let's look at what the machine is doing:
- The conveyor belt seems to surge forward
- The PLC is telling us that "the belt is out of sequence with the rotary-indexer on the Servo Motor
- After a while of flawless operation, (could be a 1/2 hour), the system will error-out as above
